ACU Trial GB Class review from St Davids Trial.
Jack Price (Gas Gas) heads off to the first Trial GP round in Italy this weekend holding a single point lead in the domestic championship from Toby Martin (Beta), whilst Dan Peace (Sherco) sits in third ready to pounce on the leading pair. Current Champion, James Dabill has elected not to ride the whole series so slips to fourth in the standings.
Price and Martyn shared the lead after the opening twelve sections which included two mega difficult hazards at nine and ten. On opposite ends of the longish lap, section nine consisted of a huge boulder step, slightly undercut, but with a further rise at the top, whilst ten was a variation of the Big Gulley with a steep tree rooted middle part. Both of these sections defeated the whole entry on the first lap.
Second time round a helpful kicker found its way into section nine and TRRS rider Hugo Jervis (pictured) was the first to get though non stop. Cleans then followed from Price, Martyn, both Peace brothers, Iwan Roberts (TRRS), Billy Green (Montesa) and Jack Sheppard (Sherco).
However, the tree laced bank and ten was not to be cleaned with Price and Roberts the only pair to see the ends cards on the final lap. This helped to boosts Roberts return (he missed the opening round) to fourth on the day with Green being the "best of the rest" in fifth. Jack Peace suffered eight marks on time for sixth place with Sheppard, who opted to ride the whole course without an Assistant in seventh.
The Scorpa supported pairing of Andy Chilton and Tom Minta finished eighth and ninth with Jervis just one mark in arrears in tenth.
On their return from world duties, the riders will head to the North east for a double header on the 1st and 2nd June.
