DANBY TAKES TRIAL 2 WIN IN CLOSE CONTEST.
Making a welcome return to the series after his Enduro exploits, Ross Danby scored the narrowest of wins over his fellow TRRS team mate Iwan Roberts (pictured) in the Trial 2 class at the St David's Trial on Sunday. Roberts was originally given the win, but after a results check an error was found whereby Danby was wrongly over marked two thirds of the way round the second lap. The mistake was immediately rectified during the event, but a technical issue with the computer did not recognise the change until the manual cards were checked. The ACU Events team apologise for the error.
Harry Hemingway (Beta) made his first visit to the Trial 2 podium in third place, just two marks adrift of the leading duo.
Both Danby and Roberts tied on fifty one marks at the end of the tough three lap event and a single mark time penalty nearly robbed Danby of the win, but he just edged the top spot with sixteen cleans compared to Roberts's thirteen.
With an exceptional second lap of just eleven marks, which also gave him the bonus championship point, Harry Turner (Scorpa) showed he is a force to be counted in the class in fourth position ahead of seasoned campaigner Alexz Wigg (Vertigo) in fifth.
Also absent from round one, Tom Minta (Scorpa) made a welcome return to the series to finish sixth with three very consistent laps, which put him ahead of Sam Haslam (GasGas) in seventh, again on a tie breaker.
George Morton (Scorpa) put in his strongest performance in recent times to finish a strong eighth, with Sam Yeomans (Vertigo) getting good Championship points for eighth, whilst Chris Stay (TRRS) suffered a spectacular crash on section four, but recovered well to finish tenth.
A full report on the Trial GB Class will be posted tomorrow.
