Dan Thorpe (GasGas) backed up his second place in the opening round with a win in the Trial Expert class in round two which was the St David's Trial on Sunday. His win, together with the best lap bonus point puts the Yorkshireman at the head of the points table.
Ex Ladies World Champion, Emma Bristow (Sherco) finished a well deserved second, with George Gosden (pictured Beta) third at a tougher than expected event.
The recent dry conditions made the sections look relatively straight forward, but as bikes traversed the rock strewn hillside above Neath, the ground became slippery and care was needed to avoid instant maximums.
Thorpe posted the best score on the first lap of the race, posting fifteen compared to the seventeen of the class leader after round one, Brad Bullock (Beta) and Bristow with nineteen. However, Bullock fell foul of four time penalties at the end of the first lap, before his score went up dramatically as conditions worsened.
When interviewed at the end of the event, Thorpe remarked that he seemed to be losing marks in lots of places, but soon learnt his rivals were as well.
So with Bullock finishing fourth, it was left to the Jones brothers Gwynedd (Beta) and Iwan (TRRS) to finish in fifth and sixth, with Tyler Rendall (Vertigo) being one of the few riders to better their score on each tour of the twelve sections to finish seventh. In contrast, Charlie Smith (Vertigo) was in contention early on, but five failures third time round ruined his chances.
Tom Swindlehurst (Sherco) backed up his good points from two weeks ago in ninth, whilst series rookie, Sam Wooldridge scored more points in tenth.
The series now takes an early summer break until the next round in the Lake District at the end of May.
Further class reports will be posted over the next few days.
