Trial GB - Current Champion opens with a win.
In our final look back at round one we examine the ACU Trial GB class.
Reigning Champion James Dabill was always going to start favourite to take the outright win but the young guns kept the pressure on during the opening lap with Jack Price (Gas Gas) completing the twelve sections just one mark in arrears, 16-17 with Toby Martyn (Beta) on 19 and Dan Peace (Sherco) returning with 20. However, despite a “five” in the Sandpit section on the second lap where his main rivals shed single dabs, Dabill turned up the heat and edged out a five point lead at the end of the second tour. Price suffered a disasterous final lap which included three failures and that allowed Martyn to easily snatch second, when he posted the best lap of the Trial with just ten marks. Peace also recovered well on lap three but the damage was done and he had to settle for fourth ahead of Andy Chilton (Scorpa) who had some outstanding cleans, but with eleven maximums the podium was out of reach.
Jack Peace on the second Sherco was just one mark adrift of Chilton, but comfortably ahead of Billy Green (Montesa), Tom Minta (Scorpa) and Hugo Jervis (TRRS) with Iwan Roberts a non starter due to strength sapping illness during the week leading up to the event.
Our next look will be at the Manufacturers Championship later in the week.
