MARTYN TAKES TRIAL GB CROWN.
Although it was not announced at the Podium presentation on Sunday evening due to there being many permutations with best lap points ahead of the final round in four weeks time, Toby Martyn (TRRS) has added the British Trial GB crown to his World Trial 2 title after two hard fought days in the Welsh hills at the weekend.
Jack Peace (Sherco) fought hard to keep the title fight alive with a well earned single mark victory at the Bro Cader Trial on Saturday, including taking the best lap bonus point, but Martyn fought back from third on the opening lap of the Hafren Trial on Sunday to take the win - and the title.
Billy Green (Scorpa) produced his best domestic result of the season with second place at round eight to edge Peace into third. This was aided by a superb last lap of just two marks over the twelve sections and he posted the most cleans in the entire class.
Riding in his home event on Saturday, Iwan Roberts (TRRS) came very close to being on the podium for the second time this year, finishing just three marks in arears of Green, but a poor first lap on Sunday highlighted the lack of practice time for the talented ex Trial 2 World Champion.
As in the other classes already reported upon, the Bro Cader event at Dinas Park was hard and technical, taking sixty nine marks from the winner, Peace. leading the new champion by two marks at the end of lap one of the race, riding at the back of the field and using all of his time allowance, the Sherco rider started the final lap of twelve sections just three marks to the good, but Martyn fought back to reduce the margin to just one mark in a nail biting finish.
Sunday's event was easier, mainly due to the fact that the sections were less long and technical. Lap scores reduced as the day progressed as some very inventive lines were sourced on some of the steepest sections in the woods along the Glyn Hafren hillside.
Full results and championship standing are on this website and the final round is scheduled for the 24th October at Matlock.
