TWO CHAMPIONS CROWNED
With one round still remaining, both Toby Martyn (TRRS - Trial GB) and Tom Affleck (Sherco - Trial Expert) are now confirmed as champions in their respective classes.
Following two days of hard fought competition at Llanbedr and Llanidloes over the weekend Jack Peace (Sherco) made a bold attempt and won the Bro Cader Trial on Saturday, but by reversing the positions at Glyn Hafren on Sunday Martyn is now twenty one points clear in the table with just one round remaining. In the unlikely event that Martyn failed to score points at the final round, his closest challenger Peace could only tie on points, but the Cornishman would be declared the winner on the most wins countback.
In contrast, Tom Affleck has a comfortable lead in the Expert category and was confirmed as Champion at the podium ceremony this afternoon with a second and third place over the weekend. Returning to top flight competition after a lengthy injury, Dan Thorpe (GasGas) demolished the opposition on both days to take two wins in the class.
However, things could not be tighter in the Trial 2 category as effectively it will be winner takes all at the final round (if they finish first and second) with Andrew Chilton (Scorpa) and Ross Danby (TRRS) separated by just two points after Danby closed the points gap with two hard fought wins in contrasting events.
Saturday's event at Dinas Park was tough and physical with long technical sections, whilst Sunday's round on the Jones' farm was more traditional and concentration was the key to success.
Once again, Harry Hemingway (Beta) and Harry Turner (Scorpa) traded punches in the Trial 125 category with a win each, whilst the younger Hemingway, George, split the two on Sunday.
We will give a breakdown of each class over the next four days.
