Connor grabs last section ACU Trial 2 victory.
In a dramatic climax, local hero Sam Connor (Beta) snatched victory in the Trial 2 class by cleaning the final six sections when his rivals faultered. The leader in the early stages was 2018 Champion Ross Danby (TRRS) who held a slender three mark advantage over Sam Haslam (Gas Gas) with Connor trailing by a further three after two tours of the twelve sections. However, despite a failure on the second section which his main rivals cleaned on the final lap, the Beta rider parted with two single dabs on the remaining ten hazards whereby his rivals took at least two maximums. Even with a hiccup on his second lap which included four failures, Dec Bullock (Gas Gas) finished the "best of the rest" with some confident rides on the harder sections, whilst Luke Walker (Sherco) halved his previous two lap scores with just twelve marks on his final circuit to claim fifth.
2018 Expert Champion, Richard Sadler (Beta) improved his lap totals as the day progressed to stay ahead of Oliver Smith (Gas Gas) who came out best on a tie break from James Fry (Sherco) whilst Alexz Wigg, riding a two stroke Montesa slipped off the pace after a good opening lap to finish ninth, with Joe Baker (Sherco) who suffered too many maximums in amongst some good rides, completed the top ten.
We will examine the ACU Trial GB Class top ten tomorrow.
