Martyn on top form for round six.
By his own admission at the end of the event, Toby Martyn (TRRS) was on top form when he won the sixth round organised by the Yeadon Guiseley Club at Brimham Rocks last Sunday. Holding an eight mark advantage at the end of the first lap of twelve sections from Jack Peace (Sherco) the young Cornishman moved up a gear and parted with just two single marks on his next tour of the race which put him comfortably in front. Billy Green (Scorpa) stayed in contact throughout the day, but eventually had to take the lower step on the podium.
The group of five sections along the rock strewn wooded hillside of four to eight were the major marks stealers. The famous rock slab featured in section six took maximums from all Trial GB riders as no run up was allowed with strategically placed flags. The Clerk of the Course relented for the second and third laps (on safety grounds) whereby both Martyn and Green recorded single cleans. By this time Martyn was at the head of the pack and finished the thirty six sections knowing he had done enough to win.
Jack Peace was working hard at the back of the field, using all of his allocated time allowance and this rewarded him with a comfortable second, as Green had lost too many to make a challenge on the first lap.
Unfortunately, Iwan Roberts found lack of practice time a handicap with the very technical sections and did not complete the course, whilst Dan Peace was a non starter, still recovering from his elbow injury.
The next round takes place at Llanbedr in North Wales on Saturday 25th September
