Chilton edges ahead in Trial 2 Class.
By stamping his authority with a nine mark winning margin, Andy Chilton (Scorpa) has edged out an eight mark points advantage over his arch rival and current Champion, Ross Danby after round six at Brimham Rocks on Sunday.
Jack Dance (GasGas) made a second consecutive visit to the podium in second, whilst Sam Haslam (Honda) has hauled himself up into fifth in the standings with his third place, in the Yeadon Guiseley organised event.
Chilton set up the win on the opening lap of twelve sections with the best lap score of the day with seven and although he encountered failures in separate sections on the second and third laps, he stayed in single figures each time. Both Dance and Haslam matched the winner with just two failures over the thirty six rocky sections, but it was some heavier bouts of footing which made the difference.
Section six, a technical first part followed by a blast up a rock slab required a full on confident attack and only the winner and Dec Bullock (Beta) mastered it the first time round before the section was rightly considered unsuitable and modified by the Clerk of the Course, Sam Yeadon after misty rain took the grip away.
Joint series leader going into the event, Ross Danby (TRRS) finished fourth, one mark in front of Jack Challoner (Honda) who was making a confident return after a log lay off from top flight competition.
Tom Minta (Scorpa) slotted into sixth with three consistent laps, with Bullock seventh. Oliver Smith (TRRS) improved as the day went on for eighth, whilst in contrast, Alexz Wigg (Vertigo) had a poor final lap, which included three failures to finish ninth, just ahead of James Fry (Sherco) in tenth.
There are now three rounds remaining with the next event being on Saturday 25th September at Llanbedr in North Wales.
