MARTYN BACK ON WINNING WAYS IN TRIAL GB.
With a comfortable eleven mark win Toby Martyn (TRRS) maintains a healthy lead at the top of the standings in the Trial GB class with just four rounds remaining in the 2021 title chase. Returning after missing the last round to recover from a niggling injury, Dan Peace (Sherco) fought hard for a well deserved second position, winning a tie break from Billy Green (Scorpa) who was delighted to make his first visit to the podium in third. Despite two failures each, Peace edged out Green by two cleans when the results were announced at the end of a hot day.
Martyn's opening lap of six included a time out maximum at the steep section eleven, where our picture shows Dan Peace. Taking too long lining the TRRS up to jump a chasm in the early part, the Cornish rider just did not have time to complete the ultra steep climb which followed. His rivals learnt from this mistake and sped through the earlier part to allow time to tackle probably the steepest climb in the UK.
Although Green was happy to have some podium pie, he did feature in two of the biggest crashes of the day, but bounced back on both occasions. A lack of speed constituted a five on section eleven first time round and failing to "take out" a small step which needed speed on another steep ascent on zone nine on lap two, caused the second.
Riding at the back of the field, Jack Peace (Sherco) slotted into fourth, just one mark from third with lap scores of 9-2-7. Although he holds a comfortable second place in the championship, he is now sixteen points behind Martyn with four rounds remaining.
Iwan Roberts (TRRS) in fifth recorded some spectacular cleans, but recorded seven failures which put him out of contention for a repeat visit to the podium following the previous round.
The series now moves to the rocky hillside of Brimham Rocks on the 15th August.
