Review of Round one, class by class.
Over the next four days we will take a closer look at how proceedings developed in all the classes at the opening round which took place at Hookwood in Surrey on Saturday. We will start today with the ACU Trial 125 class .
With a single year experience behind him in the same class in 2018, Brett Harbud (Beta) survived a poor last lap to take the win from invited guest Ben Dignan (Gas Gas) and Irish visitor, Adam Harris - also Gas Gas mounted.
The Beta rider was well in command of the three lap, twelve section course, but a hiccup on the final two sections with 5-5 scores could have been disastrous, but with an opening lap of ten marks compared to Dignan's twenty, coupled with the best lap of the Trial with just nine on lap two was enough to secure the win.
In contrast, Dignan, who travelled from Roy Bridge in Scotland improved as the event progressed with a final lap of fourteen to snatch second spot by two marks from Harris.
Riding the same sections as the Trial Expert class, sections three and five were the most difficult with three and five marks penalties being the norm, but it was Harris's single dab on the large jagged rocks of the fifth which was outstanding.
Our CJB image features Brett Harbud on one of the typical Hookwood sections.
A report on the ACU Trial Expert Class will be posted here tomorrow.
