Martyn, Wigg, Hemingway and Alford take wins.
In a high scoring event, Toby Martyn (TRRS) scored a convincing win over Jack and Dan Peace (Shercos) in the ACU Trial GB class at Hookwood earlier today. With many superb rides, but mixed with some hard crashes the Cornishman laid down the gauntlet for his rivals. Martyn failed in seven of the twelve sections on the opening lap as rain began to fall, but recovered well and only maxed out on four more occasions in the remaining two laps.
By his own admission, a surprised Alexz Wigg (Vertigo) claimed the win in the ultra competitive ACU Trial 2 Class with a five mark win over reigning Champion, Ross Danby (TRRS), whilst local favourite and 2020 winner Sam Connor (Beta) had to settle for third. Consistent laps of 20, 22 and 23 was the key to Wiggs success and following a five year lay off from major events, whilst it was a total of thirteen failures which kept Danby from the top step of the podium.
Equally convincing was Harry Hemingway (Beta) who drew first blood over Harry Turner (Scorpa) in the ACU Trial 125 category, whilst thirteen year old George Hemingway (Beta) took the lower step on the podium. Riding the same route as the Expert class, the eldest Hemingway brother returned three single figure lap scores to edge out his arch rival Turner as conditions started to dry out.
Despite two time penalties, Chris Alford (Scorpa) won the very large Trial Expert class from Tom Affleck (Sherco) with Joel Edwards demoted to third with seven time penalties. As expected, the Expert class was closely fought with just twenty one marks covering the top fifteen point scoring positions.
We will give full reviews of all four classes starting tomorrow (Monday).
