Danby retains series crown in ACU Trial 2 Class.
A fifth place finish in the final round at the Bob McGregor Trial was enough for Ross Danby (TRRS) to retain his title following a win on Saturday, which formed round eight of the series. His closest challenger, Richard Sadler (Gas Gas) scored two third place finishes, when effectively, he would have needed to beat the TRRS rider at least once to have had any chance of the title.
The class is so competitive, as confirmed by Sunday winner Sam Connor (Beta) at the podium presentations that five different names were required to visit the ceremony over the weekend. With Danby taking the Saturday win, it was Scorpas Tom Minta who finished second ahead of Sadler, whilst James Fry (Sherco) who led on laps one and two on Sunday, just lost out to Connor on a tie break by two cleans for the final round win.
In the overall standings, Danby, Sadler and Connor were followed by Minta and Fry, who overtook Sam Haslam (Gas Gas) who opted out of the final two rounds following a niggling injury. Mitchell Brightmore (Gas Gas) scored consistently with some excellent rides throughout the year to finish seventh ahead of Declan Bullock (Gas Gas), Luke Walker (Sherco) and Oliver Smith (Gas Gas).
