Two riders share lead in the ACU Trial 2 Class
Whilst Tom Minta (Scorpa) snatched a last lap win in the Lakes Trial on Sunday, the title race is red hot with both Richard Sadler (Gas Gas) who finished second and Ross Danby (TRRS) sharing the lead on ninety two points with Sam Connor (Beta) ready to pounce, just three marks in arrears. James Fry (Sherco - pictured) was pleased to visit the podium ceremony for the first time in the class, but was equally disappointed about throwing away a possible win on the very last section.
A strong field of twelve riders tackled eight of the twelve ACU Trial GB route, but losses were at a premium with Sadler completing the opening lap with a single penalty on the angled rock slabs of section two. In contrast, Minta shed eleven on the first lap which included a failure on the rock outcrop of section twelve, high above the village of Troutbeck, overlooking Lake Windermere. However, Minta recovered well and completed the final lap without penalty to snatch the win from Sadler who lost eight and six respectively on laps two and three.
Just seven marks separated the top six with Connor fourth, Current Champion Danby fifth after two maximums in the first four sections and Sam Haslam (Gas Gas) riding with an injured knee improving on a poor first lap to take sixth. Returning after a lengthy injury, Duncan MacColl (Beta) was the "best of the rest" in seventh, with Dec Bullock (Gas Gas), Luke Walker (Sherco) and Mitchell Brightmore (Gas Gas) all completing the top ten.
The action now moves to Brimham Rocks near Harrogate this Sunday ahead of a six week break to the final two rounds.
